The winning team of Session II for the Fall-Winter 2008 Session was:

The Annihilators!

The Annihilators were led by Iowa City locals David Carrasco, Johnny Irvine, Brian Griffith, Michael Smith, and Alex Helmuth.   Other local soccer prodigies on the team were Felipe Carrasco and Austin Otto.  The core of the Annihilators team has won the last four indoor sessions.  The Annihilators, a team that has changed its name more times than Brad Stiles has "crushed" a good hotdog, has clearly been the dominant force to reckon with in the league for the past three years!

Blending a mix of terrific speed and quickness possessed by Alex Helmuth and Austin Otto with the flair and playmaking skill of David Carrasco, the Annihilators proved to be the most capable team in both the regular season and in the playoffs.  Many of their opponents withered away in the face of the Annihilators's high paced counter attacks led by Alex Helmuth or Austin Otto.  Moreover, the team played with terrific confidence going forward knowing that their "Mountain" of a defender, otherwise known as Johnny Irvine would hold their opponents away from the goal long enough for the rest of the team to recover and snuff out the other team's chances of scoring.

If these weapons weren't enough, Brian Griffith always proved to be a formidable force on the dribble, turning players in and out with ease and grace.  Back in shape and playing with confidence, Brian's twisting dribbling runs helped create numerous goals and chances for his team.  Of course, the heart of the team was clearly David Carrasco.  Few players play with such grit and toughness and yet also terrific skill.  At one moment Carrasco will play a deft touch over the opponent's head with the flick of his right foot and in the next moment he will absolutely "clatter" the opponent in a searing tackle for the ball.  No one in the league played with his passion game in and game out.  Even with only 3 players on one night in the regular season, Carrasco came to play, exhorting his teammates do do the same and leaving little doubt in anyone's mind who the most competitive player in the league was.

As the league heads into the third session, the question that has been asked over and over for the past four sessions will be asked again, is there anyone who can take the title from the Annihilators?  If there is a such a team up to that challenge, make no mistake, you will have to wrench the trophy from the grips of the Annihilators and they will not take kindly to your challenge!
